Stewart Blusson – Specially Elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada

We are pleased to announce that the Royal Society of Canada will honour Stewart Blusson this year with the title of Specially Elected Fellow.

Founded in 1882, the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) comprises the Academies of Arts, Humanities and Sciences; in addition to Canada’s first national system of multidisciplinary recognition for the emerging generation of Canadian intellectual leadership, The College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists. Its mission is to recognize scholarly, research and artistic excellence, to advise governments and organizations, and to promote a culture of knowledge and innovation in Canada and with other national academies around the world.

From the Royal Society’s news “Stewart Blusson is renowned for pioneering innovative field research techniques in his early years with the Geological Survey of Canada, unraveling the geologic history and resource potential in Canada’s northern frontier. Often inciting others with his insatiable curiosity to think beyond conventional concepts. Later with a partner and limited private funds to prove up an entirely new mining industry for Canada that spilled over into renewed diamond exploration worldwide. This, along with his philanthropy at a high level in basic research, education and medicine, has led to numerous awards including Order of Canada, Logan Medal, two D.Sc. honorary degrees and induction in the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame.”

This year’s new Fellows will be inducted to the academies of the RSC during the Induction and Awards Ceremony on Friday, November 18, 2016 at the Isabel Bader Centre in Kingston, Ontario. To see the full list of new fellows, please click here.
