In this presentation I will describe some of these measurements. In one, we are working on improving the sensitivity and bandwidth of the readout of GaAs based spin qubits using an rf-QPC. In another set of measurements, we are using sensitive calorimetry and SQUID magnetization measurements to study frustrated magnetic materials such as Dy2Ti2O7. Dy2Ti2O7 has been shown to be a magnetic analog of water ice, and thus dubbed “spin ice”. Theories and experiments have developed a fascinating perspective of viewing excitations within the low temperature phase of this spin ice as monopoles.
